I have a daydream. It goes like this: I'm out for a night of karaoke and I get up on stage to sing Aerosmith's "What It Takes." I NAIL IT and ROCK THE ROOM! Everybody loves me. They are on their feet! Cheering! Because I am so amazing. It then turns out that Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is sitting in the back of the room and he is, rightfully, extremely impressed. By mere coincidence, it turns out that the band has indeed parted ways with frontman Steven Tyler and, right there and then, Joe invites me to join the band. He'll have to run it by the others, he says, but he's sure they'll all agree just as soon as they hear me sing. And that's how I become the lead singer of Aerosmith.
Why am I sharing this dream with you? Partly because, I'm hoping that if you know Joe Perry, you'll let him know I'm interested. But mostly because this video reminded me of that daydream. Here, a girl gets up on stage at karaoke night to sing a little Drake and Rihanna song, and the next thing she knows, she's joined on stage by Drake himself. Surprise! Granted, he doesn't ask her to come on tour with him, as far as I know. But it's kind of, sort of similar.
She told E!, "I was up there with the mike and the first beats of 'Only Girl in the World' started playing and I said, 'Stop the song! Does anyone here know how to do the Drake part of 'What's My Name.' So I was like, anyone? Anyone? Hello? And decided to just sing it by myself and then boom! Drake jumps up with his bodyguard behind him and was like, 'Wait, I thought I was going to do the song with you.'
"I was like, 'Oh my God, Drake!' I just got lost in the moment and thought, 'Whatever happens I don't care.' It was a total Hollywood moment.'"
Ah, karaoke! What dream are made of. (Call me, Joe!)
