A hundred and thirty thousand dollars for a painting made with the late Amy Winehouse's blood? That's it? Really? I'd think it would go for more. Clearly I know NOTHING about the art market.
The Independent reports that this Friday, former Libertines frontman/ex-boyfriend of Kate Moss/big drug fan Peter Doherty "is to auction off paintings smeared with his own blood, as well as prized possessions including his private diaries, military jackets from the band's glory days, guitars and a selection of personal trinkets."
As we hit the six-month anniversary of the death of Amy Winehouse, her dad Mitch is reportedly mad that Jean Paul Gaultier us exploiting the late singer's image for a fashion line.
Gaultier unveiled his Winehouse inspired line this week - beehives piled high, cigarettes and retro skirts and corsets - in a Paris catwalk show that featured a barbershop quartet singing Amy's hit "Rehab."
Lioness: Hidden Treasures, the posthumous Amy Winehouse album, drops today.
Here is the video for the single "Our Day Will Come," a cover of the song originally recorded by Ruby & The Romantics. Amy recorded this track for her debut album Frank, but it didn't wind up being included.
The video is a montage of pictures and footage of Amy, who died in July at age 27.
Another track from the posthumous Amy Winehouse album Lioness: Hidden Treasures has hit the web. This one is titled "Halftime" and is a beautiful, Stevie Wonder-esque piece of classic 70‘s style soul with flute and tinkly keys.
The song, produced by Salaam Remi and recorded in 2002, is one of the many unreleased tracks featured on Lioness: Hidden Treasures, which drops December 5 (some reports say December 2). Other songs include “Our Day Will Come” and “Like Smoke.”
Winehouse died July 23 at age 27. Hear the song below.
Oh, The Sun. We can always count on you for an interesting story.
The sensational British tabloid is reporting that perpetually green-tinged rocker Pete Doherty “has fled to Paris because he says the ghost of Amy Winehouse is haunting his London flat.”
The Sun claims Pete told friends that the spirit of Amy, who died July 23 at age 27, visited him three or four times at his place, which is near where she died in Camden.
“Doherty claims he saw ghostly images in his bedroom and her reflection in his windows late at night.
“The Babyshambles frontman, 32, who was a friend of the Back to Black singer, says he is too frightened to return.
“A pal said: ‘He is utterly convinced that he has seen her ghost.
"’A lot of people will think his visions are probably drug-induced but he claims he is clean.’"
Like a lot of these tabloid tales, the truth has to be one of a few options. And I’m genuinely curious to see what people make of this kind of story. So, which do you think it is?
As you have probably learned by now, a posthumous Amy Winehouse album will be released December 6.
Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures is a collection of unreleased tracks recorded by the tragic soul singer before she died of alcohol poisoning on July 23. And it turns out the cover was shot by Amy's friend, Canadian rock star/photographer Bryan Adams.
"My photo of @amywinehouse for her new album cover 2011," Adams tweeted yesterday, with a link to the pic.
According to Spinner.ca, Adams photographed Winehouse in 2007 for nonprofit organization Hear The World, and pictures he took of her appeared in Harper's Bazaar in September 2010.
Adams told the UK Telegraph in 2008 that Amy had stayed at his home on Mustique over the 2007 Christmas holidays, but other than that he didn't want to talk much about the friendship.
"I don't even know, truthfully, how anybody knows I know her -- other than the fact I photographed her," he said. "I don't really want to talk about it. Because it's her business. You know what I mean?
"I just through it would be nice for someone to come and spend time...But I don't want to focus on that."
The final music video in which Amy Winehouse appears has been released on what would have been the star's 28th birthday.
Winehouse, who died on July 23, at age 27, recorded a duet of Body and Soul with Tony Bennett for the veteran crooner's upcoming album Bennett Duets II. The album, scheduled for release on September 20, is a follow-up to his first collaboration album Duets: An American Classic. Its release will coincide with Tony's 85th birthday. Proceeds from sales of the track will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
Duets II features duets with Lady Gaga, Queen Latifah, k.d. lang, John Mayer, Faith Hill, Mariah Carey, Willie Nelson and more. But Tony said in an interview with the Guardian, given before Amy's death, that she was his favourite collaborator on the record.
Tony says, "Everybody just said, 'Ooh, I don't know how you're going to handle her,' but I felt completely different; I said, boy, she really loves to perform."
Amy looks pretty healthy and happy in the video. And, man, her voice really was something, wasn't it?
It’s sad but true: death sells. Soul singer Amy Winehouse has become the UK’s biggest selling artist of the 21st century with her Back to Black album surpassing previous record-holder James Blunt.
Back to Black - Winehouse’s second studio album which was originally released in 2006 - has shifted an extra 175,000 units since the singer was found dead in her London home July 23.
The countdown is on to the September 20 release of Tony Bennett’s new album of duets – inventively titled Duets II – which features the legendary 85-year-old crooner opposite music mega-stars including Lady Gaga, Aretha Franklin Michael Bublé, k.d. Lang, Sheryl Crow, Mariah Carey, Andrea Bocelli, Queen Latifah, Willie Nelson and, notably, Amy Winehouse.
Mashup DJs The Jane Doze have patched together a three-minute mix themed around the greatest musical talents we’ve lost at age 27. After an intro from Jean-Michel Basquiat, the “Forever 27” blend builds upon Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black,” the backbone of the track. Tracks from other stars who passed prior to their 28th birthday pop up rather seamlessly: The Doors’ “Love Me Two Times,” Janis Joplin’s “Summertime,” Robert Johnson’s “Hellbound on My Trail,” and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Take a listen. What do you think? Is this a fitting tribute to artists we’ve lost too soon?
