When superstar Christina Aguilera paid tribute to the legendary Etta James by belting out her classic "At Last" at the singer's star-studded funeral, it wasn't the first time she had covered the late, great blues singer.
Hit the jump to watch vintage (and remarkable) footage of Aguilera singing James's "Sunday Kind of Love" at the tender age of seven or eight. Even as a pre-tween Aguilera had stage presence... and pipes.
Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine's hit song "Moves Like Jagger" – which features his Voice cast-mate Christina Aguilera – is about to get the ultimate endorsement: a guest appearance from the inspiration himself, according to Us Weekly.
"Making a video for 'Moves Like Jagger' with Christina Aguilera tomorrow!" Levine, 32, tweeted Thursday. Levine and Aguilera first performed the homage to Jagger, 67, on The Voice in June; Us Weekly now reports that Jagger himself will have a part in the hit song's video.
Us Weekly is also reporting that all four coaches of The Voice – including Cee-Lo Green and Blake Shelton – would be returning for the show's second season.
A frothy new pop track from Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera in a brief but typically show-stopping cameo has been issued by Universal Music - check it out below.
The tempest is in a British teapot, but you have to admit the dude kind of has a point.
Legendary UK songwriter and producer Mike Stock - one third of 80s and 90s-era hitmakers Stock, Aitken Waterman (see monster hits by Kylie Minogue, Dead or Alive, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Samantha Fox et al) - has come out swinging against the hyper-sexuality of musical artists like Rihanna and Christina Aguilera, especially as they appear on TV.
Though it didn’t seem like there was much else going on in the world amid the Royal hoopla, there was! Here’s what you need to know.
HOT TV – The Voice Debuts BIG Despite Christina Aguilera’s...well, Christina Aguilera, the show was the highest rated of the night and very favourably reviewed. However, explaining the concept shouldn't take 20 minutes. I was a bit confused. Things I noticed – Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera's hatred of each other. Am I wrong? They're gonna fight. Also, they ALWAYS commented on the way the contestant looked – isn’t the show supposed to NOT be about looks? I think it will get more interesting as they all get more comfortable letting their diva out.
HOT PICTURE – Adam Lambert Facial Hair This is terrifying. Seriously. Is this real?
HOT TEASER – Lada Gaga Documentary This is too much for me. Why is she crying? I don’t get it. :( In other news, I’m absolutely going to watch this documentary when it comes out.
HOT NEWS – Donnie Wahlberg Twitter-God Looks like New Kids on the Block are doing more than combining a bunch of letters together with other boy bands. Member Donnie Wahlberg saved someone’s life this week via Twitter! He retweeted a fan’s link who was in desperate need of a kidney, which then caught the attention of Vanderbilt University, who then found a donor for Bobbette Miller! Yay!
I'm not fan of Christina Aguilera but I'm starting to feel a wee but sorry for the poor girl. Over the last year or so she's gone through a divorce and an album flop and been in a really embarrassing movie. I mean, did you SEE Burlesque? Yikes. Then there was that totally blown out of proportion lyrics flub at the Super Bowl, followed by an arrest for public drunkenness - even though she was sitting in the passenger seat of a car (???) - and now a lawsuit.
Fortunately she got some good press with the announcement she'll be joining the mentor panel on NBC's The Voice, along with Cee Lo, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
Christina Aguilera refuses to apologize for her X Factor appearance that sparked more than 1,000 complaints in the U.K. Apparently she insists that what they're calling "burlesque-style" dancing can never be "too raunchy".
Starpulse says Christina and Rihanna were invited by Simon Cowell to appear on Saturday's finals and collaborate with contestants. "After their sets, both singers performed their own songs, but their saucy routines left audiences at home furious - and officials at the U.K.'s Office of Communications (Ofcom) were bombarded with complaints, forcing them to launch an investigation."
Poor Christina Aguilera has been taking a bit of a beating in the media lately. In fairness (to the media), you can't really blame us. We're only human after all and she just seems to have such a MASSIVE CHIP on her shoulder.
Still, she's been trying awfully hard, showing up everywhere without any pants on, posing naked and giving the world a massive EFF YOU with the first single off her latest record.
Now comes the news that the record, Bionic, has suffered the biggest single-week drop in UK chart history. Yowza.
The UK Telegraph says "Bionic plummeted to No. 29 in the charts after debuting at No.1 when released last week."
And it has only sold 24,000 units – the lowest sales figure for a No. 1 album in eight years. This news comes on the heels of the announcement that she postponing her American tour until next year.
She, of course, said she was putting it off in order to allow herself more time to prepare but people were already speculating that the real reason was poor ticket sales, which is obviously the truth. Nobody postpones a tour for any other reason, except sickness (often brought upon by substance abuse - code word: "exhaustion")
Boy, I'm really spoiling you guys this week. First there was the free Eclipse soundtrack (that's no longer streaming, alas). Now here's a preview of Christina Aguilera's Bionic exclusively streaming on her A.P.E. Radio station, "Christina Aguilera Radio." Available now though 11:59 pm EDT on Monday, June 7th EDT, the night before the album's official retail release.
The press release says "Listeners can tune into the station now to experience the worldwide premiere of Bionic in its entirety, interspersed with exciting audio that Aguilera has recorded exclusively for the channel, including her thoughts on the album as an expression of her sexuality, which new song her best friend is walking down the aisle to at her upcoming wedding, and the inspiration of the singer's son Max on the song All I Need. Aguilera also fully utilizes the interactive opportunities of her A.P.E. station, and incorporates selected messages that fans email to christina@aperadio.com or call in at 1-866-686-1010. The most creative messages are played on the air."
So, people are accusing Christina Aguilera of ripping off Lady Gaga a lot lately. This has been going on for a while but has reached a fever pitch since Chris released her latest video, Not Myself Tonight, on April 30th, and the track title is providing fodder for many a headline along the lines of "Christina is not herself tonight. She's Lady Gaga." Oh, snap. Too bad nobody saw that coming.
The allegations include ripping off elements of Gaga's Bad Romance video – white background, flames, hair, dance style…and bits and pieces of the rest of Gaga's oeuvre (Bodysuit! No, seriously!).
I'm no fan of Christina Aguilera. I'm practically allergic to her. Her voice makes me stabby. It's a like a cheesegrater on my face. Also, she seems like she's kind of a pill, and is 30 years old but acts like a teenager trying to get a reaction. Case in point: This song, which contains lyrics like "I'm dancin' a lot, I'm takin' shots and I'm feeling fine. I'm kissing all the boys and the girls" and "The old me's gone I feel brand new. And if you don't like it F*&@ you."
